 There are actually a lot of major transits affecting the US chart this year, so I am only going to tell you about a few of the more noteworthy transits and trends. The first interesting transit I see is in January…tho it will be active for a good while before then and throughout the year because of retrogradation: It is a sextile between Pluto and the moon. Pluto is traveling through the USA’s 1st house this year and this is a difficult position for the cold, dark, little power monger. Pluto also represents focus, intensity and protective inclinations and when you combine it with the moon, it takes on the tone of “survival instinct”. The kind of instinct a mother elephant has when she sees a group of lions and hyenas gathering near her baby. The US needs to continue thinking about protection this year, and this is apt to be an ongoing trend for decades to come. Since it is an easy aspect we may not have to contend with any major attacks as long as we are keeping our guard up, but sextiles are tricky. They often bring forth the possibility for a bad thing to happen because we have taken the easy way out of something, or done it on the cheap. This transit involves the moon, which represents bodies of water and liquids in general, as well as mothers, home, family, real estate, publicity and popularity. In the chart I use for the USA the moon falls in the 3rd house of neighborhoods, teachers, communication networks and vehicles. So, if we were trying to predict someplace terrorists might strike, we might think of a huge network which supplies a neighborhood’s water as well as our ship channels and ports. Obviously these are only a few of the possibilities, so use your imagination and apply the Pluto/moon keywords on your own. Another area this transit describes can be related to caregivers/teachers being creepy perverts and molesting their wards/students. Keep in mind that Pluto/moon interactions in general speak to an emotional dark side, which is kept hidden from others and is often very destructive. These people are emotionally guarded and are usually hiding some major skeletons in the closet. Watch for people in positions of power who act very controlled in their demeanor, because they could be repressing latent feelings of rage. Controlling mama’s also fit this set of descriptors, as do powerful women. This is not an inherently terrible energy…no energy is…but it isn’t one that makes me comfortable either. The next transit that I think is worthy of mention is the last pass of a trine between Uranus to the USA’s sun in the 8th house of OPM (other people’s money) which will first occur in February. The US’s sun is also conjunct Lucky Jupiter, as well as money and love friendly Venus natally. Uranus is coming from the 3rd house, and I already gave you a rundown above on what it represents. Uranus brings forth great change and is very difficult to predict. I think it often represents the intervention of a higher power into our lives, very often in the 11th hour or very quickly. This is its good side…its bad side can bring chaos, uncertainty, accidents and perversion. The trine will bring opportunity and ease or laziness and slacking off. Remember too that accomplishments and comeuppances come much more readily with the trine. Therefore, think about those 3rd house rulerships…one of which is neighbors. The US’s neighbors are likely to undergo some major changes, yes, but some of them are also likely to experience chaos. I doubt Canada will be affected by too much chaos, but they could experience a number of changes in their leadership/finances/philosphies. I would be more inclined to look for chaos to stem from our other neighboring countries…like Mexico, Central America and Cuba. Uranus can bring some unusual people into our life and exciting changes to our outlook can ensue. Teachers will become more innovative in their teaching techniques and they will also need to become more technologically savvy if they are going to teach our kids how to get along in the world of the future. Uranus is signaling that it is time to educate our teachers better, which will also mean paying them more. There is a lot of truth in the adage that “you get what you pay for” folks. If the future means anything to you, and I assume it does, then you need to realize the nations children are not consistently being educated in a way that is going to keep the US at the forefront of advances in the world. And again, I want to reiterate that Uranus does rule the perverts…so watch your kid’s teachers, and also their classmates unfortunately, for individuals who are odd, strange and just plain weird. Uranus rules innovation, so look for some interesting trial arguments in the legal system: As well as some major changes within the legal arena. These are likely to deal with finances, inheritances and some dark crimes involving rape and even murder. Maybe if we are lucky they will start handing down harsher sentences for rape and family abusers. April brings another interesting alignment in the form of a trine between Neptune and Mars, which will pass again in July 2007 and February 2008. This is an interesting transit that is as nebulous as its instigator Neptune. Neptune rules fog, unseen conditions, our subconscious, fantasy, drugs and alcohol, confusion, idealism, deceit, leaks and disappearances. Obviously this planet’s energies can run the gambit between the most wonderful experiences of your life to the most horrific. Mix it with Mars, the planet of energy, sex, men, war and anger, and get ready for some diffused drives toward our goals, confusion about which path to follow, misplaced anger, confusing sexual encounters and people who are operating based purely on unconscious motivations. Neptune is falling in the 2nd house, which means there could be lies and deceit regarding bank accounts and sleezy financial dealings in business (imagine that…). Keep an eye on business partnerships, because while one side may be pure as the driven snow, the other side may be the ultimate con man. However, because it is a trine, perhaps the major players will start shooting straight (…yeah…I don’t believe it either). Good sales pitches will be rewarded. Look for businesses operating under the auspices of a partnership and which make their money in ocean related activities, in the gas and oil industry, and the production of drugs and alcohol to prosper. Watch for some big names to partner up related to thusly described businesses too. Neptune is the transiting planet in this duo and is also sneaking up on the moon in the 3nd house bringing benefits for women, for teaching children, in water related and home based businesses, family run businesses and vehicle sales, including boats. This is a good year to follow your intuition as well. There is a lot of Saturn going on this year in the US chart: This is the planet of duty, discipline and hard work. Saturn is definitely the planet God uses to test us. Saturn also rules the military and where better does a soul get tested but in combat situations. Often Saturn brings us opportunities to prove ourselves and use the knowledge we have arduously accumulated over time. Patience is rewarded and humility is our best protection. I expect there will be many changes involving older people, which makes sense given how many baby boomers are moving into their golden years. Retirement communities and assisted living centers will spring up overnight and there could be a few medical breakthroughs to benefit older people. Speaking of health… Virgo rules the health domain, and also rules cleanliness. The south node is in Virgo right now and we have already had quite a few run ins with Norovirus, MRSA infections, bacteria in food…all of which have to do with cleanliness in some way. So south node Virgo is letting its presence be known already; then too add to its influence, in September, Saturn is going to move into Virgo. This can be a very good thing and bring standards of care up to new levels in institutional settings like hospitals and making people more disciplined and attentive in their hygiene and cleaning rituals. On the negative side, if we do not heed the warning that bacteria and infective agents are becoming more aggressive as our population grows, then we will likely continue to suffer the consequences in a dire manner. There is a very good reason that the Bible says “cleanliness is next to Godliness” and 2007, into 2008, are earmarked to show us why.
