![]() About those Mercury retrogrades…and others… I say I am not afraid of retrogrades nor do I think about an upcoming visitation with trepidation. However, that isn’t to say that I don’t think they can be a real pain in the ass at times. But then, can’t we all? If you follow astrology at all you probably know that when a planet is considered retrograde, or going backwards, it really isn’t. The planet is just slowing down its orbit for a time which makes it look like, from on earth, that it is going backwards. So back to Mercury retrograde… I am in the middle of the slow down before direct motion of Mercury right now. Both my sun and my ascendant are ruled by Mercury in my chart and it is also prominently placed. My husband has a Mercury ruled ascendant and moon. So what did we decided to do? Work with power tools (also ruled by Mercury and Virgo). Well, we blew the fuses. My husband took our oldest car for a drive and the air conditioner is out…again. Everything I did, including screwing the bottle of fertilizer into the hose, was a major chore. Everything my husband looked at something he noticed it was breaking or broken. This was the day before the planet was slated to go direct. Four days prior to this our upstairs air conditioner kept blowing the fuse. We had the electric guy out the week before that and he just switched the circuit on and left. That weekend the compressor was smoldering and would have caught on fire if my husband hadn’t woke up at 3 am to go out and check it and smelled it burning. So this was going on the entire week and a half prior to it going direct…when it is considered going into stationary. I have always found this time up to the planets actual apparent change of motion, to be the most annoying time during retrogrades. All of the things around our house breaking is a definite Mercury retrograde thing, as Mercury rules anything electronic, vehicles and tools. If it has a power cord or wheels, be extra careful with it during Mercury retrograde phases. I am writing this on 7/8/07, and on the 27th of this month, Venus will go retrograde until September 9th. I suspect your desire to socialize will be squashed and if you decide to have a get together anyway, it will not go well. That is unless you have Venus retrograde in your natal chart. Whatever planets you have retrograde natally will operate more naturally when the planet is in retrograde status during the year. Anyway… As Venus changes directions, I would expect all things Venusian to be annoying. Financial miscommunications and mistakes will be the most noticeable of the problems you might encounter. However, the one I would caution you most strongly on is having a beauty treatment done because they are not likely to go well. If you want to get a new summer look I would try for the dates between July 12-18, give or take a couple of days either way. If you have a major makeover done during Venus’ retro period you may not like the results, it will not be worth the money or there will be hidden costs or cause a need for other procedures/expenditures, as a result. Friendships are also under the gun, as are light romances. The only caveat to this is if you are teaming up with someone behind the scenes…in a clandestine manner maybe. However, be aware your cover will likely be blown by early September if you are involved in a romance which would be deemed unseemly or you want to keep hidden. The planet slated to turn to direct motion next however is good ol’ lugubrious, Lucky Jupiter. He will go into forward drive on August 7th. Just in time for the kids to go back to college. I have an overseas trip planned for that next week…that is if I ever get a passport…I applied on the 3rd of April. I would be surprised, but I used to work for the government and know they inherently cannot get anything done in a timely fashion. So, I figure, if I do get my passport it will show up in a 3-4 day window, after Jupiter (ruler of foreign travel) goes direct. My best guess is I won’t be going. Something else Jupiter rules is doctors, polititians and other high profile people and to some extent authority figures. It also rules the clergy, foreigner folks, different cultures, the exotic, spirituality and deep philosophical insight. Oh…and professors and the judicial system. Jupiter is a big planet, so he keeps lots of big impressive folks on his agenda. The presidential candidates will be swinging into full gear by August. Oh joy. Hopefully during the retro period people have been reevaluating their motives and realigning their intentions in a positive manner. Others will have been in the planning phase of some grand scheme that may work out and may go bust, as sometimes things do with overexpansive Jupiter. Others will have been finding out that they are in over their heads during the retrograde phase, and after it goes direct they will be doing major damage control and letting their investors or board members in on the state of affairs. I will try and remember to fill this in with my own observations during the upcoming retrogrades and direct motions. I am guessing my own experiences will have to do with planning and not planning for a two week trip to Europe. In case anyone with the passport services is reading…I know it’s not your fault. It is partly my fault since I have gone without one longer than most adults and didn’t decide to get one until after it has become a problem. However, you would think they would allow you to talk to someone about it before two weeks before your trip. I have worked for the government before and I am guessing that isn’t enough time to get the wheels in the cogs for them to get one out. As an added issue of interest, while Jupiter is retrograde and slowing down to go forward for July and early August. This is the time when we are advised to not go into the hospital because the residents are all new and the seasoned docs are on vacation. Jupiter rules doctors as I said previously. Therefore, when Jupiter is retro a doctor may not be as alert to problems, may be unavailable or just not functioning up to par. I have had excellent luck with my doctor this time during the retrograde phases, but his office help is another matter. Most particularly the office manager who hasn’t gotten anything right, from scheduling my appointments, ordering supplies or billing. I can live with that if the doc doesn’t create more problems for me than I already had. We aren’t done yet, so I will reserve judgment until we are. This is experience talking. Halloween brings the foggy, misty deceiver, Neptune, back to direct motion and just in time for Thanksgiving, crazy making Uranus gets its orders to forward march. If I get time I will update all of these events making this an ongoing blog. And maybe I won’t…depends on my time and my memory! Okay, because I lost a boatload of money my memory was most assuredly jogged the day Venus went retrograde...the 27th of July. The DOW dropped 400 points and followed it up by dropping some more the next day. Woohoo. NOT. Didn't surprise me, but it didn't make me or anyone else invested in the stock market happy. The stock market, of course, is ruled by Venus, as is plain ol' hard cash. I also had a bad day dealing with incompetent, uninterested women who work for the passport service. I did however, have a good day dealing with my Congressman's office, so the current Saturn trining Pluto energy out there overroad measly little Venus retrograde...as well it should. Hearing from friends and clients from the past was also a big part of the week leading up to the 27th, so that fits well and was an enjoyable occurance. I love checking in with everyone. Venus retro isn't a horrible influence, but all retrogrades make a planet not operate at it's optimal level, and in some ways on a different level. I notice the underdogs winning out more. For instance, poor Ford Motor Company has been dying a slow death due to what appears to be poor management. They also expanded into specialty areas and just didn't have the hootspah to make it work. However, after much nipping and tucking, they are posting a profit this quarter...and posted it as the rest of the market was falling. And while it did help them stay in the black as those around them fell to the red, my guess is they would have gained a whole heck of a lot more had they made the announcement last week.
